I was born in Bellingham, Washington in 1967. I am a life long resident of Whatcom County. I graduated from Mount Baker High School and attended Bellingham Vocational Technical Institute for 2 years. While their, I studied the school's Heavy Duty Diesel program. I started work at the age of 16, greasing trucks at night and weekends for Alpine H&S Log. Jerry Hammer and Bob Starry were the owners. That job developed into a Heavy Duty Mechanic position, working on all types of logging equipment.
In 1990, I went to work for Bakerview Equipment. The owners were Del and Rick Bosman. While there, I worked on all types of equipment, and would oversee the shop duties and parts department.
At the end of 1995, Brian and Steve Pederson of Pederson Bros Inc. had a Self Loading log truck for sale, and I purchased it. My Grandpa Vic Engholm had a Self Loader for years, and I spent many a-days in the summer and weekends riding along with Grandpa. When I was 14 years old I would get up at 4:30 or 5:00 am, and ride my bike 7 miles each day just to ride in his truck. That's probably the reason I purchased my first Self Loader log truck.
I started out hauling logs, and decided to set my truck up to haul poles too. When I bought my truck, I never thought I would deliver poles to Des Moines, Iowa for tornado damage.
I recently purchased a new 2010 Kenworth T800. It's nice to have a dependable truck to go on long hauls at short notice.
I am active in a lot of things, and most noticeably, the Deming Logging Show. That also goes back to my Grandpa. I served as President in 97 & 98, and currently am Vice President. As you can probably tell, my Grandpa was a big influence in my life, and if you knew him, you know why. And, we could probably share a few stories.
Regards,
Jeff Engholm
